too close for comfort

After shanking far too many hits on the driving range yesterday (Granted I’d only had about 3.5 hours sleep the night before but still) I took another look at my golf swing from some video I took early this week. …
One thing just jumped out at me! I am standing way too close to the ball at address. I also found some great articles from golfonline that go into some detail about shanks, their causes and how to cure them. This also would be a major factor to my outside-in swing that is causing the ball to slice.
Additionally, I also found a post on golfrewind that had a quick test to see how far you should stand from the ball. Basically it goes something like this…
- Take your normal stance.
- With your eyes shut, lift the club infront of you so the shaft is parrallel to the ground and at arms length away.
- Bring your arms in so your triceps touch your chest.
- Bend at the waist until the club head touches the ground.
- Open your eyes and compare the club heads position to where you originally set up from.
For me, this was a good 6″ further away from me.
We’ll see how this goes on the range tommorrow
