I found a nice article in my mailbox today about ‘hitting the ball fat’ (Golf talk that is). I wanted to bookmark it but thought I’d throw it on here instead for any other keen golfers.

I got some early b’day presents today. My local golf shop had a members only pre-stock take sale tonight. Although my wife was a little disappointed that I keep picking my b’day presents every year, she still let me pick up 2 nice new clubs.
I was quite impressed with the $$ amounts they had reduced the clubs by tonight. I definitely wasn’t expecting as good a discounts as I got.
I’m still learning to hit consistently and to get rid of my over the top move but I think these clubs will help. At the very least it’ll feel nice hitting a decent club instead of a newby one.
Taylormade R7 Draw
I’m a slicer like most golfers so this was an easy choice. I hit 5 different drivers and settled on this one. It also produced the highest swing speeds of the 5.

Cleveland 3i Halo
I’ve been using my 3 hybrid quite a bit lately. I’m not too good with it but I’m determined. Hopefully this version of the 3 hybrid will improve that slightly. Its a good quality club for an average golfer and the price was right

I’m getting much closer to having a half-way consistent golf stroke with a proper inside-out approach. This is an article I picked up along the way that can help anyone with the same outside-in I’ve been fighting for months.
Downswing Article
The homepage link on the link above also has links to other sections of the golf swing. Its a pretty good read

I’ve taken the first steps to improving my golf bag with the purchase of a TaylorMade Rossa Monza Corsa.

I don’t think the putter is going to magically improve my strokes but I know I’m going to enjoy putting a heck of a lot more!

After shanking far too many hits on the driving range yesterday (Granted I’d only had about 3.5 hours sleep the night before but still) I took another look at my golf swing from some video I took early this week. …
One thing just jumped out at me! I am standing way too close to the ball at address. I also found some great articles from golfonline that go into some detail about shanks, their causes and how to cure them. This also would be a major factor to my outside-in swing that is causing the ball to slice.
Additionally, I also found a post on golfrewind that had a quick test to see how far you should stand from the ball. Basically it goes something like this…
- Take your normal stance.
- With your eyes shut, lift the club infront of you so the shaft is parrallel to the ground and at arms length away.
- Bring your arms in so your triceps touch your chest.
- Bend at the waist until the club head touches the ground.
- Open your eyes and compare the club heads position to where you originally set up from.
For me, this was a good 6″ further away from me.
We’ll see how this goes on the range tommorrow

Brian Manzella’s neutral grip has gone a long way in helping me stopping my slicing. I’ve posted a copy here for anyone interested in reading it
